Dennis Malloy of 101.5 FM was in the House at Mrs G’s in Lawrenceville

January 25, 2011

Dennis Malloy of New Jersey 101.5 FM was cooking up a storm at Mrs. G TV & Appliances last Saturday. His personality is larger than life. It’s one thing to hear him on the radio, but to see him live, full of vim and vigor is a treat. Over 400 people registered for the show, but the audience was limited to 100. Of those, 15 were randomly chosen for VIP seats to taste Malloy’s creations. Five bloggers were also selected as VIPs, and yours truly was fortunate enough to be front and center.

The event was sponsored by Miele and Pennington Quality Market (PQM), who like Mrs Gs, are both family run businesses. Miele has been in business since 1899, and PQM celebrated their 50th anniversary last year shortly before Mrs Gs celebrated their 75th anniversary. Dennis’ sous chef was John Sowienski. He’s a Food Network veteran chef, and sported his Food Network chef’s jacket, which was exciting to see. He also anticipated Malloy’s every need. I think I need a sous chef in my kitchen! Ray “the Prize Guy” Handel was also on hand giving out prizes (how appropriate), including Broadway tickets to Phantom of the Opera!

Dennis cooked up some tasty game day treats. Sausage & pepper and cold cut strombolis, cheese steak roll-ups, cheese and chicken quesadillas, and a potato volcano were created. Malloy was on fire, figuratively speaking, cooking up his halftime specialties in front of the crowd, as if he had his own live cooking show for years. He was funny, full of stories and food facts, very engaging, and had the audience literally eating out of his hands! He cooked on a Miele induction stove top which uses magnets to heat metal pots & pans, but remains cool to the touch, and he baked in the Miele MasterChef convection oven that had a navigational menu, that wowed the crowd. Seth Hamill, Mike Taylor and Al Carnaval represented Miele, and explained how innovative their products are.

A meet and greet followed the cooking demo, where the audience had the chance to have photos taken with Dennis, and asked him questions. All were fed courtesy of PQM, with special thanks to Mike Rothwell, the VP and General Manager who was in attendance. I love local businesses, because they care about the community, and understand how we all support one another. It was fantastic that New Jersey 101.5, Pennington Quality Market, and Miele all partnered up with Mrs Gs to provide a quality afternoon of community, with Dennis Malloy as the anchor to inform and entertain all in attendance. Debbie Schaeffer, President & CEO of Mrs G TV & Appliances continues to provide events that add so much value to the lives of area residents, and is a true pillar to the community!

Dennis provided a fun menu for those who like to indulge in comforting, hearty food, especially during the Super Bowl. I know my kids would LOVE to get their hands on his potato volcano, which were steak fries piled in the form of a volcano, baked with bacon and grated cheese, then topped with sour cream. I wonder if he would show up with all his goodies if I sent him an invitation to my Super Bowl party?

You can tune in to Malloy weekdays 10 AM – 2 PM on the Dennis and Michele show at 101.5 FM, where you can hear him speak about his cooking, as well as politics, human interests stories, and other things happening in the greater Trenton area.

Great recap Robin! I love the line “Malloy was on fire, figuratively speaking…”> I just had a visual of if that really happened! Thanks for coming as always!

Thanks Hilary! Thank goodness he wasn’t really on fire, eh? He’s great with an audience. Thanks for the invitation!
