Princeton Fireworks Photos

July 4, 2011

This is the first year I didn’t arrive early to picnic at Campbell Field next to the Princeton Stadium before the fireworks began. My husband and I arrived about 30 minutes before the display started and still got a decent place to sit. I had time to set up my tripod, change camera settings, and chit-chat before taking photos.

The fireworks started pretty much on time and lasted about 35 minutes. There wasn’t a large variety of bursts displayed, so it was a little monotonous, but there were still some oohs and aahs heard. The finale was small, but after many started walking away, another final burst was fired off giving us a second mini finale.

Overall, it was a nice event, but it was apparent the budget isn’t what it used to be. I’m just thankful we had fireworks in Princeton, especially since a number of towns have cut it completely out of their budgets.

I’m sharing some of my favorite photos that I captured just in case you missed the Princeton fireworks display, or just like looking at fireworks photos.

“it was a nice event, but it was apparent the budget isn’t what it used to be” – we went to the fireworks in Donaldson Park in Highland Park this year. A friend said the ones in Franklin are more extravagant. Last year we went to Asbury Park for the fireworks, and *those* were fabulous. Maybe the people in Asbury are spending the $ because they know they need to look like a *cool* place for tourism (and Asbury is so much better than it used to be twenty years ago).

I do like your shots – simple and straightforward. I am still learning how to photograph fireworks – the settings I memorized before showing up didn’t work, so I had to play around with the camera. My Asbury Park beach photos from last year were better.

I always love seeing fireworks in my town not only for the display, but also to see friends. Next year I do want to add a couple of other towns just to mix things up. Maybe I’ll have to go down to Asbury Park. Thanks for the tip Leora!

As for photo tips here are some I wrote last year. BTW, I like your blog!
